Day of Firsts

Today was quite the busy but fun day.  Kenedee experienced just a couple of firsts.  We visited the Science Center today which was her first time.  We discovered she is still a bit young to really enjoy all the exhibits, but we still managed to have fun

She didn’t mind this dinosaur at all.  However, the exhibit with the huge mechanical T-Rex was quite a different story.  Even as we were heading down to the lower level she spotted it off in the distance and said ever so sweetly, “Mommy I not want to go see that dinosaur it’s scary!” (she doesn’t quite have her grammar perfect yet).  So, we tried to ease her into seeing it, but she wanted nothing to do with it.  In fact at one point she ran to her stroller for safety rather than Kyle.  But when we were leaving I finally at lease was able to get her to say bye-bye to the big T-Rex.

And the second and last “first of the day”….

I actually let her step foot outside without a shirt on.  Can you believe it?  For those of you that know me, I would not normally let this happen but we she was in the middle of taking her shirt off because she had spilled on it and we were going to be giving her a bath so I didn’t want to put a clean shirt on her and she wanted to help me water the flowers.  So, I actually gave in and let her come outside to help me without a shirt. So, treasure this picture because this will probably be the only time I’ll let this happen.

Out With The Old, In With The New

We have lived in our house now for about 10 months now.  We have slowly been trying to touch up the front yard a little. We started out my removing some ginormous shrubs that were right in front. Today, we decided to pull up the ancient timber that was surrounding the flower beds and give it a fresh look.  We were able to accomplish our task in about 5 hrs.  I’m very happy with the way it turned out.  There are still some other things we want to do, but this it’s already so much better than it was before.

Such A Lovely Day

The weather was absolutely gorgeous today, a little warm with a nice breeze.  Kenedee and I took a walk to a local park.  We were the only ones there which was nice because I didn’t have to worry about her being trampled over by bigger children like the play area at the mall.  She went down the slide I don’t know how many times, I pushed her on  the swing, and then of course she insisted that mommy join in and sit on the little bouncy animals with her, I was definitely a little big for it, but for her I would do it.  So, that was our morning together, she will spend the evening with Kyle while I’m away at work

Game Night

On Kyle’s day off we always try to do something fun together as a family.  Well yesterday, our day was full of running errands and shopping.  So, since the day was all full of stuff mommy and daddy needed to do we decided to buy a board game to play together in the evening.  Kenedee has never played one, so we though we’d give it a try.  We ended up buying Candy Land.  She understands the concept of going to the color space of the card you have drawn, but still has a little trouble following the path, but I suppose that will come in time.  She’s at such a fun age and I’m trying to cherish moments like these.

A Lesson in Giving

Tonight, I decided to try and teach Kenedee a lesson on giving.  She has been blessed with so much, and so I talked about how great it would be if she would pick out some of her stuffed animals to give away to children who didn’t have much.  She was a little apprehensive at first, but after we started sorting I think she enjoyed it.  I hope it is something that she will want to continue to do.

This is her among her many fuzzy friends before we started sorting through them.

According to her, the tag on this bear said "Kenedee you need to keep this bear."According to her the tag on this bear said, “Kenedee you need to keep this animal.”

These are all of the animals she decided to give away.  It was hard for her at first, but then she actually started picking animals out on her own that she wanted to give away.  In the end, we managed to come out with two bags full of animals to give away.

He’s Great

Happy to say Kyle made it home safely this morning.  He is so wonderful.  After being up since 4:00 this morning to catch an early flight, he came home and had to go to his office to get things ready for tonight.  He offered to take our sweet little Kenedee with him.  Of course, Kenedee probably would have protested had he tried to leave without her, but he did it so I could have some much needed time for myself.  She was pretty good while he was away, but this morning was a little rough.  She was not the daughter that I was used to, I honestly think she was just getting tired of me.  Just want to thank Kyle for being such a wonderful father and husband and allowing me to have a little time for myself this morning.

What I’m Learning

I’ve been reading this book over the summer and last night something really spoke to me. There was a section that was talking about Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-42). It really opened my eyes and made me realize that a lot of times I can be a lot like Martha in that I am so busy and distracted by what is going on around me and what I need to get done that I don’t devote time to God like I need to. I’m always so concerned about getting the laundry done or keeping the house clean that I can sometimes put my spiritual life on the back burner.  I’m so thankful this was brought to my attention.
